Before Weight Loss Surgery

Psychological factors have a huge impact on every person’s physical health. Nowhere is that more true than it is in the field of weight control. We know that people eat for many reasons, some healthy and others not. “Binge Eating Disorder” (BED)  is a serious eating disorder in which patients frequently consume very large amounts of food and are simply unable to stop eating. For some people, excessive overeating becomes a regular occurrence and crosses the line to binge-eating disorder.

This is not just occasional overeating; it is a serious psychological disorder that must be treated. Bariatric surgeons must be assured that this condition is addressed before a procedure like the gastric bypass or the gastric sleeve is performed. Read about this important topic in our past article, “The Importance of Treating Binge Eating Before Bariatric Surgery.”
