Pancreatic Surgery

gallbladder, liver, pancreasHow much do you know about your pancreas? In fact, the pancreas is an important organ in both the digestive and the endocrine system. Pancreatic surgery may be needed because of several serious medical conditions. Modern laparoscopic surgery techniques have made pancreatic surgery much better tolerated than it was in the past. The use of a laparoscopy procedure means that these operations are generally safe and well tolerated. There will be losses of digestive and endocrine function, but these losses can be managed. The benefits of partial, or even total pancreatectomy, often outweigh the drawbacks. You can find out more by reading “Pancreatic Surgery” in our blog archives.

As in weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery), patients needing pancreas surgery should seek a qualified, board certified surgeon who is experienced in these procedures.
