Take a walk

ObesityEvery good doctor wants to encourage the concept of “wellness.”  Wellness is more than the absence of illness. It is an active process of making healthy choices about the way we live and care for ourselves and others. It means taking active measures to build and maintain good health.

You can start this on your own without any special equipment, except a decent pair of shoes. There is no better way to wellness than a brisk walk. This blog has cited the arithmetic of calories, walking and weight control before. That data varies according to a person’s body weight and walking pace, but an average of 100 calories per mile is a good estimate. Doing that mile every day means walking off a little more than 10 pounds in a year.
