Weight Loss Surgery and Insurance

insuranceSome surgical procedures are unquestionably necessary and automatically covered by any good insurance policy. Others, like some cosmetic surgery, are entirely optional and not commonly covered by any insurance. Weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery) sometimes falls into a middle ground.

It may help to have participated actively in an exercise program in a supervised bariatric clinic setting, to have tried behavior modification or a prescribed bariatric clinic diet. Patients who have demonstrated commitment to these programs and still not met weight loss goals are considered better candidates by insurance carriers. The approval process for bariatric surgery can be intimidating. Our practice includes experts in navigating the weight loss surgery and other insurance approval processes.

Medicare patients may very well be covered for weight loss surgery in many situations. Only a complete evaluation by a qualified physician can determine this. You can find out if you qualify by scheduling an appointment with our office.
